General Craigslist tips to get the most out of your sales!

If you want to make extra money by selling the unwanted things you have around your house, you may turn to Craigslist.org.

These tips will not only increase your chances of making a sale, but they will also eliminate most of the hassle commonly associated with selling on Craigslist.

Craigslist Tip - Writing a Good Craigslist Ad

What you say and what you don't say will have an impact on whether your item sells. On Craigslist, you want to be short and get right to the point, but you also want to share as much information as possible. If you are selling a treadmill, go the extra mile and highlight a few features of that treadmill. Create a list with different features on separate lines, as this makes it easier to read. A little bit of accurate information goes a long way.

"Most interested buyers will ignore items without pictures posted!"

Craigslist Tip - Taking Pictures

If you don't want to take a few minutes to take and upload a picture of what you are selling, save yourself the trouble. Most Craigslist sellers include pictures now and you will be in the minority. Most interested buyers will ignore items without pictures posted. Moreover, make sure your picture is good. It should focus on the item in question. If you are selling television, take a picture of the television not your entire living room.

"Whatever you do, don't wait a week (to return emails and calls)!"

Craigslist Tip - Answer Your Phone or Email

Most sellers will either leave their email address or their phone number. Interested buyers use this to make contact. If you will not be home, leave an answering machine on. This enables buyers to leave their contact information. If you don't, you are likely to see 15 calls from the same person within a 3-hour window. They fear someone else will beat them to the punch. As for email, begin checking yours a few hours after your for sale listing goes live on Craigslist. Whatever you do, don't wait a week. Your inbox will be filled and many emails will be "why are ignoring me" messages.

We say, get back with your buyers within a few hours if possible, no later than a day if not! If you don't they will usually have gone somewhere else!

Craigslist Tip - Choosing a Seller via Email

Lots of Craigslist sellers like to leave their email address as a method of contact. This eliminates annoying late-night calls from interested buyers. However, most email accounts are setup so that they automatically display the newest messages first. Keep this in mind because it is best to offer the item to the person who contacted you first. This means that if you received 45 responses, that first buyer may appear on the second page of your email account.

Craigslist Tip - Removing Your Craigslist Ad

Once you have an item that sells on Craigslist, you should immediately remove it from the website. This is a very easy process that only takes a few minutes of your time. Why should you bother? For starters it the nice thing to do, but it can also create less hassle for you. Not all Craigslist buyers pay attention to the date. You had a like-new couch you were selling for $100. Guess what, it likely went fast. But, Craigslist will keep your posting up for 30 days. If you have a great item with a good price, people will keep on calling you right up until those 30 days. Remove your ad.

We say, If you are selling a ton of items, you may want to leave your ad up to generate more phone calls. That assumes you are selling similar items.

there is a lot of money to be made on Craigslist, with a variety of strategies. You could buy entire estates and sell item for item, maybe jewelry, specialize in electronic items, or just sell the stuff you were going to give away at the goodwill!
